OILS 101

Now that we've officially met, I'd love to tell you more about these mysterious, mystical potions. Grab yourself a drink because there's a lot to say about these babies. Oh, and don't worry. That's what I thought they were, too, at first. It's really not as mysterious or modern as it sounds. In fact, essential oils have been used to support general wellness for a very, very long time through use of fluids found in plants, shrubs, herbs, seeds, trees, flowers, and more. The simplest and most effective way someone explained essential oils to me when I was still a skeptic, is that the fluids found in these plants are the "life blood" or "immune system" of the plant.  Through careful extraction of all of that good stuff (google: steam distillation process so I don't bore you - but it really is pretty cool), we are left with some super, power-packed, potent 5ml and 15ml bottles of Young Living essential oils.  These bottles are packed full of therapeutic, wellness-boosting, emotional-supporting constituents of the extracted plant oils.  

This is the part where I tell you that not all essential oils are created equally.  This is something I didn't truly understand or maybe even believe early on in my journey.  However, I am telling you, friend. Go to your favorite big-box store and smell the essential oils in the home goods section, and then let me give you a bottle of the good stuff to compare. What you will notice immediately, is the "sweet" smell of the other brands.  The perfumey scent of those brands are actually the essential oils you are probably most familiar with.  The fragrances in perfumes, lotions, candles, foods and cosmetics are often synthetic.  Meaning, our bodies do not readily absorb and use them for good things.  In fact, our bodies are more likely to view these synthetic oils as the enemy.  

Young Living Essential Oils are therapeutic grade, which basically means they're on our team. Woohoo!  Within 22 seconds of using your oils, the molecules have reached your brain.  After 2 minutes, the molecules can be found in your bloodstream.  It gets better.  Within 20 minutes of applying essential oils, they can be found in every.cell.of.your.body.  What?!

While you're googling "distillation process", make sure you also google, "Young Living's Seed to Seal" promise.  Better yet - I'll give you the abbreviated but equally awesome version of what you might find. The process of distilling oils from plants is actually pretty complicated.  There truly is a season and a time (and purpose!) for everything, and essential oils are no different.  Young Living is involved in the entire process from "Seed to Seal".  The soil the crops are planted in are pesticide and herbicide free. Toxin free plants mean toxin free oils.  Young Living oversees every step of the distillation process, ensuring every drop of that oily magic is pure and ready to be put to good use.  YL is truly the only essential oil I feel comfortable putting on my kiddos skin.
